When you've experienced it enough times, the patterns become super clear
Four years ago I had a hunch.
So I started making videos about project management.
I felt very strongly that basic project management best practices could save startups from themselves.
Experience had shown me that the attraction to Ideas, novelty, and shiny objects often far outweighs the focus on flexible processes and competent oversight that can actually make things happen.
Now, this is not a new concept and I won't claim to have discovered something earth shattering, but the difference was that I understood it at a granular level because I lived it.
And when you've experienced it enough times, the patterns become super clear.
Here are a few:
👉A junior team that works hard, but doesn’t make desired progress toward goals.
👉Lack of clarity around priorities, accompanied by little to no accountability.
👉Missed deadlines and lost opportunities, causing frustration.
This is the stuff project management was made for.
And it turns out that hunch I had four years ago was correct.
Implementing best practices has made a big impact on the small teams I've worked with.
Things like:
➡️ Using the right project management technology to reduce time to delivery.
➡️ Holding meetings with purpose to improve communication and morale.
➡️ Aligning the team on goals to increase velocity.
➡️ Tracking metrics to make data-driven decisions.
In fact, here's what one partner said about my work:
"Kayla elevated our offering while significantly saving on cost. She has an uncanny ability to bring people, tools, and happy clients together toward a unified effort."
So stop thinking your team is too small, not ready for it or "fine without it."
A good idea is one thing. Actually delivering is another.
