What exactly is freelance project management?

Here's how I describe it:

A freelance project manager is a person who completes work outside of a 9-5 arrangement by leading with their project management skills.

Maybe they describe themselves as a solopreneur or a consultant or an independent contractor or even fractional but, in any case, they are free to work for multiple companies by delivering their work on a contract or project basis.

Some freelance project managers work 60+ hours a week, some part-time, and others take on work only to supplement their full time job.

Some want to scale their offers to build businesses while others simply want to live life on their own terms.

Examples of work that can be delivered under this model:

✅ Training programs

✅ Fractional consulting services

✅ Technical project management

✅ Project assistance and support

✅ Implementation management services

✅ Stakeholder management/client management

Why would a person want to do this work vs. a 9-5?

⭐ Flexibility with schedule

⭐ Ready for a change or general shift in life

⭐ Choice of type of projects and teams to work with

⭐ Ability to grow skillset by being involved in more opportunities

⭐ Opportunity to set rates in alignment with skills/experience/market
