Why I’m Not Worried About Monetizing My YouTube Channel

I knew nothing about how to edit videos when I started my YouTube channel in 2020, but that didn't stop me from giving it a try.

At the time, all the resources I could find about project management seemed so stiff and formal. I wanted to create material that was real and personal, like a conversation with a good friend.

The first batch of videos were one solid take because I literally didn't know how to edit anything out. Once I mastered that, I was on to solve the issue of bad lighting.

What my videos lacked in technical quality, I made up for in passion about the subject matter. But the internet doesn't care about that 😂

If my goal had been to monetize and go viral, I can guarantee you I wouldn't still be making videos today.

But that wasn't my goal; instead, I truly wanted to help people and advance my own understanding of a discipline that requires continuous improvement. And that's exactly what happened.

As an added and unexpected bonus, making videos also helped me become more comfortable with hearing my own voice and sharing my own thoughts, and helped with attracting the right clients to me.

It's been almost four years since that first video and while my audience has grown, it still remains quite modest. Now, there are dozens of project management content creators and many of them make videos that are a lot more attention-grabbing than mine!

Anyway, don't worry, I'm not here to give you advice on how to grow and monetize a YouTube channel, because clearly I haven't done it myself 😉 , but what I will offer you is this thought:

Sometimes ROI has nothing to do with money or views. Instead, it's more about what we learn, how we help, and who we become. Give yourself grace as you navigate the modern business landscape; not every step needs to land perfectly on the map. 💫
