3 Steps to Become a Public Speaking Pro

Not super jazzed about the idea of talking in front of people?

Me either.

At least, historically.

But, they say the best way to become more comfortable doing something, is by doing it.

And the truth is, if you want to level up you can't get away from it (trust me, I spent a lot of time hoping this one would just go away 😂).

Whether it's delivering a presentation at work, being a guest on a podcast, or stepping onto the big stage, the time will come.

So get ready for it.

I've been polishing my skills for the last few years and a couple of times have been caught off guard when folks call me "a natural."

I am most certainly not "a natural." Probably the furthest thing from it, but I am relentless when I know I need to do something. 💪

Here are a few basic actions I have taken to help myself confidently embrace the discomfort in this area:

>> Writing, to better understand my ideas.
>> Voice memo-ing, to hear myself speak about these ideas.
>> Creating videos for my YouTube channel, to see myself share these ideas.

These steps helped me lean into my own voice and become more comfortable sharing my thoughts. Listening and watching myself back helps me understand where I can improve my delivery.

It felt awkward as hell at first, but I've learned so much from doing it. 💡

The next step is to start saying "yes" to opportunities to speak, whether it's asking a question as an audience member or delivering a talk to my client's team.

Beyond my simple advice, there are so many resources on this platform and elsewhere to help you learn how to deliver information effectively. Knowledge builds confidence for sure!

As for me, I'm a work in progress and always will be. My only goal is to learn something and improve with each speaking experience. 💫
